Roy Emberson started motocross at 37 when a friend offered him a ride on his dirt bike, from that moment on he was hooked. Roy raced for 4 years in the Amateur ranks and during this time he started to notice promising young riders, less fortunate than himself. As an end to his racing days loomed Roy looked for an alternative way to fuel his motocross bug.
In 1988 Yamaha UK approached Roy with an offer of bikes and parts to run their machines in the AMCA Championship. Twenty years later the partnership is still going strong.
His drive for success and recognition at the highest level saw Roy take a massive stride onto the Grand Prix circuit, with fresh new talent Justin Morris. Gaining many top eight finishes in the GP, finishing top five in the British championship and winning a British Supercross title marked the emergence of the team into the pro ranks.
In 2001 it would be two international riders, American Jeff Dement and South African Paul Cooper, eager to fill the prestigious space on the team. An injury plagued year in which Jeff broke his back and Paul wrecked his knee forced Roy to revaluate his goals for 2002.
His decision to concentrate on the domestic scene for the next six years proved to be the right move. No end of titles came his way, including two British 4-stroke, six British Masters and the first team to ever win a British Championship MX2 round on a 4-stroke motorcycle.
It is not only the glory on the track but it is the immaculate presentation of race vehicle and bike together with the professional way the team expects its riders and mechanics to conduct themselves that make being apart of it so very attractive. Hence the numerous requests each year from the youngest of riders to adult professionals alike all eager to further their career with this most distinguished of teams.
Roy may look back and be content with his remarkable achievement but he still has the intense desire to continue his journey and add to his ever expanding collection of trophies, gain further respect and admiration from competitors and member of the public alike and above all enjoy his love of the sport of motocross.
